Returning and New Farmers 2015

Our Farms & Farmers

At our educational farms, Seattle Tilth trains participants in ecological farming practices that build healthy soil and biodiversity, using only the most ecologically sound, organic techniques. As a CSA member, you are directly supporting new, immigrant and limited resource farmers while creating a unique relationship between farmers and eaters. Build a new, alternative food economy with us!

    How Does it Work?

CSA members pay up front to establish a market for our new and immigrant farmers' late season crops.  Then you share in the delicious bounty throughout the fall!

For four weeks, Nov. 4-Nov. 25, you'll get a box full of farm fresh produce at one of our pick-up locations. Boxes include a mix of seasonal fall vegetables. Thanksgiving Turkeys and pork shares are also available.

    What's in a Box?Partial share CSA

It varies week to week, but you can expect tasty fall produce in every box and benefit from eating with the seasons. Learn a new vegetable, or find a new way to cook your favorites by enjoying recipes and other information in our weekly CSA newsletter!

    Each week might include:

    • one leafy green (like kale, chard or collards)
    • an allium (like onion, garlic or leek)
    • potatoes (including fingerlings, red, purple, and gold varieties)
    • a root crop (like turnips, carrots, parsnips or beets)
    • an additional item that are fresh on our farms, like winter squashes, apples and more

    What's It Cost?

    • Our fall share is $60 -- averages 4-5 items/week of fresh, local fall vegetables and herbs (usually a leafy green, onion or garlic, potato and root crop every week) for 4 weeks in November.

What Else Can I Get in My CSA?

    • Pastured pork CSA shares from Feliz Farm are $119.85 for a 15 lbs. Share or $279.65 for a 35 lbs. Share
    • Thanksgiving turkey from Windy Acre Farm is a $50 deposit -- Beautiful, delicious 15-20lb pastured turkeys great for roasting, raised using only organic practices and soy-free feed. Turkeys cost $7.75/lb, plus a $15 processing charge. Final cost should be $130-$170, depending on the size.

FAQs: What Else Should I Know?

How is Seattle Tilth CSA different?
    • By becoming a member, you connect directly with new, small-scale farmers with limited resources. Many are recent immigrants, some are refugees, and all are investing in creating local sources of food which is very important investment for our region.
    • Our farmers receive training from Seattle Tilth using the best ecological practices, based on Seattle Tilth's 35 years as a "go to" organization for organic agriculture education in the region.
    • We will educate you about your food throughout the season and invite you to farm events and special perks for CSA members.
