McAuliffe Park in Kirkland

Find out about our newest community learning garden in Kirkland.

McAuliffe ParkEstablished as a farm in 1887, the historic legacy of McAuliffe Park in Kirkland continues with the construction of a new community learning garden at the site.  View photos of the site groundbreaking and open house event on Facebook.

The community learning garden at McAuliffe Park is a collaborative project between the Kirkland Parks Department and Seattle Tilth, providing education opportunities for schools, community members, organizations and businesses. The learning garden will feature a permaculture approach to gardening, with a focus on water and resource conservation.

Features will include worm bins and food digesters for composting food waste, native plants, plants for pollinators, recycled and reused materials, drip irrigation, water conservation design, erosion control techniques, natural soil building demonstrations, straw bale gardens, container gardens, an herb spiral and extensive perennial edibles like fruit and nut trees.

Future opportunities at McAuliffe Park may include compost education, organic gardening classes, cooking and nutrition programming, and urban farming. Let us know what you'd like to see!

Other key partners include Kirkland Parks Foundation, Green Kirkland Partnership, King Conservation District, City of Kirkland, Cascade Water Alliance and Whole Foods.
