McAuliffe Park in Kirkland

Find out about our newest community learning garden in Kirkland.

McAuliffe ParkThe community learning garden at McAuliffe Park is a collaborative project between the Kirkland Parks Department and Tilth Alliance, providing education opportunities for schools, community members, organizations and businesses. The community learning garden features permaculture principles, annual vegetables grown with organic practices, a new rain garden, and water and resource conservation.

Future plans include cooking and nutrition education, an expanded garden, natural soil building demonstrations, and extensive perennial edibles like fruit and nut trees. Let us know what you'd like to see!

Other key partners include Kirkland Parks Foundation, Green Kirkland Partnership, King Conservation District, City of Kirkland, Cascade Water Alliance and Whole Foods.

Volunteer! Weekly Garden Work Parties

Join our drop-in work parties during the growing season and learn how to grow food! You'll work alongside Tilth Alliance staff and fellow volunteers to help keep our community learning garden growing. Weekly drop-in work parties are held Tuesdays, 5-8 p.m., April-September.  Contact Laura McGrath for more information or attend an upcoming volunteer orientation.

For Kirkland residents, the City of Kirkland is also offering free Natural Yard Care workshops at McAuliffe Park on Sunday afternoons in April and May. Learn about growing a healthy lawn and garden, smart watering, and attracting beneficial insects. More info and sign-up.

History

McAuliffe Park was established as a farm in 1887. This historic site continues as an agricultural resource for the community, and an educational resource, with the construction of a new community learning garden in 2016. The garden is built by community members under the leadership of Tilth Alliance in partnership with Kirkland Parks and Kirkland Parks Foundation.
