EDUCATION

  • Volunteer as a Class Assistant
Assist with our gardening and kitchen classes in the upcoming year! Volunteers assist instructors in setting up and taking down the class, help students check in and assist the instructor with activities during the class as needed. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to volunteering at 2-3 classes per quarter and ideally commit to this volunteer position for the whole year. Read the job description and attend one of the required, upcoming trainings.

  • Monthly Youth Service Learning Work Parties at RBUFW
Earn service learning hours at Seattle's largest urban farm! Join Tilth Alliance's Youth Education team to gain knowledge and skills in pruning, mulching, weeding, planting, farming, and more. Open to youth in high school or middle school. Work parties run regularly 10am-2pm the second Saturday of every month beginning in January 2019.

STEWARDSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

  • Soil & Water Stewardship Training
Our Soil and Water Stewardship program offers a comprehensive, nine-month training in sustainable food production and natural resource conservation for King County residents. Apply what you learn in your own community through hands-on projects like building garden beds, installing rain gardens and creating habitat for wildlife and pollinators. Applications due Monday, February 11.

  • Orchard Stewardship Training

Help grow fruit at the farm! We are recruiting Orchard Steward volunteers to help manage the wetland orchard at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands.

Orchard Stewards receive training in fruit tree pruning, organic care of fruit trees and related topics including permaculture and food preservation, in exchange for committing to attend at least monthly work parties.

  • Master Composter/Sustainability Stewardship Program
The Master Composter/Sustainability Stewards program is a four week, nine session volunteer training course, followed by community outreach activities. Topics include building healthy soil, composting and using finished compost, waste prevention, recycling, and managing storm water and protecting water quality.

After participating in 33 hours of classroom learning (including field trips), Master Composter/Sustainability Stewards then perform 35 hours of volunteer outreach, such as teaching composting classes and helping set up compost systems in schools and community gardens and staffing compost information tables at community events.
    Applications due Sunday, March 17.

  • Master Composter/Sustainability Stewardship Program Intern
The Master Composter/Sustainability Steward Program Intern will create new outreach materials, help staff outreach events, and provide general program support. The internship is open to those who have completed MC/SS training or who are able to take the training in Spring 2019. Internship applications due Sunday, February 17.
