Food and Faith Initiative
Seattle Tilth's Food and Faith Initiative is a growing coalition of houses of worship and faith-based community organizations who grow food to support our neighbors in need in King County.
The Food and Faith Initiative emerged out of Seattle Tilth's Just Garden program, which builds subsidized raised garden beds for low-income families and individuals. Just Garden has built hundreds of gardens for local families, providing tens of thousands of dollars of fresh, local, organic produce for families who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it. Since 2012, we've been working with faith communities to support the mission of Just Garden and build gardens at houses of worship to support local food banks and meal programs.
The Food and Faith Initiative provides support for houses of worship and faith-based community organizations who would like to grow food.
Seattle Tilth provides:
- on-site garden consultations for communities interested in build gardens;
- a three day garden design workshop;
- 3 two hour workshops at your house of worship covering the basics of organic gardening;
- assistance building your garden;
- connection to local growers who can provide flowers for your sacred space or food for your communal meals; and
- frequent gatherings of like-minded people of faith who are growing food to support their community.
