Get Growing at March Edible Plant Sale

2014 EPS Poster[Seattle] Did you know March is a great time to start your garden? Even though Seattle area folks love to grow food, many people don’t think about gardening until summer, missing several weeks of great growing conditions.

Seattle Tilth kicks off spring gardening season with our March Edible Plant Sale on Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Pacific Market Center garage (6100 4th Ave. S., Seattle). This event focuses on spring edible plant starts, from veggies, herbs and fruits to edible flowers and fruit trees.

Learn and Grow More
Seattle Tilth is known for its educational expertise in urban agriculture. At the sale, garden educators will offer presentations on hot topics and answer gardening questions. Organic gardening supplies will be available including Cedar Grove compost and potting soil, organic seeds, books and cloche kits to help warm up garden soil.

10 a.m. Warm up the Garden with Cloches with Sue Hartman, garden educator
11 a.m. Growing Onions with Lisa Taylor, children's program manager and author of Your Farm in the City
12 p.m. Companion Planting with Falaah Jones, garden educator

Our plants are grown locally using organic and sustainable practices -- healthy for you and the environment. Visit our website for a full list of plants and to learn more about our growers.

Our selection includes: 

  • Easy-to-grow plants for beginners such as lettuce, greens and peas
  • Hard to find plants including asparagus, artichokes and horseradish
  • Rare and heirloom varieties
  • Nutrition powerhouses such as collards, kale, spinach and Swiss chard
  • Sweet and sour delights like rhubarb, strawberries, blueberries and fruit trees
  • Foodie favorites such as culinary herbs, edible flowers and colorful cauliflower

Participate
The community is invited to get involved!

  • Volunteer. Over 150 community members lend a hand and enjoy snacks, team work and an invitation to our Early Bird Plant Sale.
  • Come to our Early Bird Plant Sale. Get first pick of the plants while raising additional funds for Seattle Tilth on Friday, March 14, 6-7:30 p.m., $25.
  • Support Garden Education. Proceeds from this sale benefit Seattle Tilth’s innovative educational garden, farm, food and environmental programs.
  • Join our Facebook event and help spread the word. Download the poster.
