Seattle Tilth’s May Edible Plant Sale Offers Largest Selection of Organic Vegetable Plants in the Region

Create a Source of Fresh Healthy Food at Your Fingertips by Growing Your Own!

Apr 11, 2013

Americans are eating too much processed food and our health is suffering. Many people are choosing to grow some of their own food as a way to prioritize healthy eating. But how do you get started? Come to Seattle Tilth’s May Edible Plant Sale to stock-up on plants and supplies to grow your own organic vegetable garden! Our May Edible Plant Sale offers the largest selection of edible plants in the region, as well as garden education and supplies. It’s on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Meridian Park (4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., Seattle).

Seattle Tilth’s May Edible Plant Sale features over 50,000 organically or sustainably grown plants that are well-adapted to thrive in our Pacific Northwest climate.

Choose from:

§  Over 350 plant varieties for your summer garden, including rare and heirloom varieties

§  Summer crops that require full sun such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and melons that can be planted at the end of May or in early June

§  Plants for beginning gardeners such as colorful lettuces, Asian greens, kale, chives, arugula, strawberries and some of the culinary herbs and edible flowers

§  Exotic flavors and uniquely colorful vegetables such as Purple Peacock broccoli, sweet chocolate pepper, bulbing fennel, Thai basil, lemon cucumbers, tarragon and striped tomatoes

Our garden educators and informative signs will help you find the best plants for your garden. There will also be planting demonstrations and educational presentations during the event. See the list of veggie plants, fruit trees and shrubs, herbs, edible flowers and seeds.

Short on time? Order “Garden to Go” online in advance. It’s a tray of plants pre-selected around a theme. Options include Summer Hits, Container Gardens, Organic Gardening 101 and Edible Plants for Kids. Swing by Meridian Park for a quick pick-up during the sale.

Also for sale will be select garden supplies and resources at the Seattle Tilth booth, as well as garden-related vendors and hot food in the lower field on the western side of Meridian Park. Check out Hot Tips to know before you go to maximize the experience.

Have the first pick of the plants during our Early Bird Sale and help raise extra funds for Seattle Tilth. This event relies on over 300 volunteers -- sign-up to volunteer and get an invitation to the Early Bird Sale!

All of the proceeds support Seattle Tilth’s extensive food, farm and garden education programs throughout Seattle and King County, building a sustainable and equitable local food system while safeguarding natural resources.
