Tilth Conference: Friday Sessions

This year, the symposium will climate change and Northwest agriculture and the farm tour will be stopping at four farms in the area.

Our Friday sessions will last the entire day. Farm Tours will begin around 8:30 a.m. and end around 5 p.m. Lunch and transportation are included for all Friday sessions.

Symposium: Climate Change and Pacific Northwest Agriculture

Experts from around the region come together to share the latest information on climate change impacts and projections, ways to adapt, and other resources:

Farm Tour: Soil Stewardship

Join us to learn from experienced farms who put soil stewardship first and foremost! For this farm tour we’ll visit Yacolt Mountain Farm and Nursery and Full Plate Farm. Learn techniques for managing and maintaining healthy soil.

Schedule:

8:30 a.m. Bus arrives; Farm Tour participants will gather at designated location 
9 a.m. Bus departs 
10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tour Yacolt Mountain Farm and Nursery
12:30-1 p.m. Boxed lunch on farm
2-4 p.m. Tour Full Plate Farm
5 p.m. Return to conference

Full Plate Farm

Yacolt Mountain Farm and Nursery, founded by soil scientists Caroline and Dan Swansey in 2011, is a sustainable, Certified Organic horse powered farm. The farm dynamically evolves to balance the needs of the Swanseys and the ecological needs of the land — the soil, watershed, animals, pasture and native biodiversity.

Full Plate Farm, located in Ridgefield, WA, specializes in growing vegetables with organic practices for the winter season with special attention paid to soil stewardship during the rainy season. 


Farm Tour: Market Diversification

Head out on a fast-paced tour through a diversity of production systems and marketing channels! See how other farms are diversifying their offerings and finding creative ways to reach markets. We’ll visit Our Table Cooperative and Garden Delights Farm.

10-11:30 a.m. Tour Our Table Cooperative Farm
11:30 a.m.-noon Lunch at our Table Farm to Table Café
1-2:30 p.m. Tour Stoneboat Farm 
3:30-4:30 p.m. Tour Garden Delights Farm
5 p.m. Return to conference

Our Table Cooperative

Our Table Cooperative in Sherwood, OR, is a regional co-op helping create a resilient and interdependent local food culture. This Certified Organic farm raises a variety of crops for both a full CSA and winter CSA. They also package their own processed food on-farm and run a cooperative grocery store. We’ll enjoy lunch at their farm-to-table café, featuring a selection of sandwiches, soups and salads all prepared on site.

Stoneboat Farm is a sustainable, draft horse powered farm in Hillsboro, OR. Brothers Aaron and Jesse Nichols work with their horse team to produce unique and staple vegetables for restaurants, CSA and markets. Their CSA offers diverse products ranging from decorative flowers to poultry.

Garden Delights Herb Farm provide products handcrafted from herbs sustainably grown on their rural farm in Brush Prairie, WA for their all-herbal CSA. Eloyce and Erin, a mother-daughter team of farmers, offer a range of herbal products including salves, teas, culinary herb blends and more. They also share their knowledge by hosting classes and workshops.
